Project Phases

Phase one (work package one)

Analysing challenges of sport in nature and the current developments in environmental education for outdoor professionals.

The data and evidence gathered through WP 1 will enable the partners to better understand the challenges facing both protected areas and outdoor sports and to work to overcome these through the development of good training programmes and systems for instructors, leaders and guides.

Objectives:

  • To gain greater understanding of the challenges of managing natural and protected areas and outdoor sports.
  • To examine any examples of where sports activities are excluded or severely restricted and to ascertain why.
  • To understand what leadership training systems are in place for a range of outdoor sports in the partner countries.
  • To ascertain what (if any) environmentally sustainable education programmes are being implemented as part of the leadership training programmes within the partner countries
  • To examine good practice in other non-EU countries in terms of environmental education processes within outdoor sports leadership programmes.


There are 3 key elements that will provide 3 intellectual outputs that are connected to this work package:

  1. Report into the challenges of increased participation in natural and protected areas and how these are managed or mitigated
  2. Report into leadership training and environmental education processes in partner countries
  3. Report into leadership training and environmental education processes in other countries


Summary Report of SEE Project Research
