Testing and evaluating the toolkit and the methods developed for environmental education

Objectives:

Using the methodology developed as a result of WP 2 the objectives are to:

  • Test the practical usability of the methodology and the tools developed.
  • Get feed-back from the users on the educational toolkit and to reflect on wishes and points of view of trainers, instructors, outdoor professionals, and participants.
  • Create a series of case studies across Europe that demonstrate how environmental education can be included in the curricula.
    Those case studies will provide a range and variety of different education Sustainability and Environmental Education in Outdoor Sports / SEE Project Page 39 of 167 systems including:
    • different sports from a range of environments
    • different participants involving a diversity of age ranges
    • short term intensive courses and longer-term regular but less intense courses
    • case studies from at least 6 countries
  • Ensure the cross-sectional approach
  • Providing added value by developing pedagogical approaches to enhance the outcomes of outdoor sport programmes.
  • Bring users of the educational toolkit together with partners in their own countries and to collaborate effectively using online systems to exchange, reflect on their work and learn about other nations’ approaches after the use of the educational package. This work package will also develop opportunities for networking for the leaders of the case studies projects through online opportunities and it is hoped that they will also attend the International Learning Symposium in WP4.

Report on the testing of the methodology in the draft toolkit developed

In order to provide a functioning and proven methodology for environmental education in leadership training, it is important to test the methods developed in real life situations together with trainers, instructors, and outdoor professionals. Therefore, 15 projects will be selected to test the methodology through grassroots outdoor sports participation programmes and courses for leadership training in different sports and environments. The partnership involves academic experts, policy makers and practitioners all of whom have got a strong background in delivery of leadership training and grassroots outdoor sports participation and this provides significant added value to this project.
