New seminar: Nature sports, environmental education and ecological transition

There are multiple relationships between outdoor sports and the environment. The first obvious link lies in the fact that the practice of outdoor sports takes place mainly in natural spaces and sites. This proximity to nature gives these sports disciplines a responsibility to respect the environment, an educational role linked to their ability to connect individuals of all ages with this nature. In this, the  Climate and Resilience Law ,  which enshrines the principle of adopting a strategy for protected areas in the regulations, is an example of environmental preservation measures likely to have effects on the conditions of practice in the protected areas.

The second link between outdoor sports and the environment concerns the global environmental issues we face. On the one hand outdoor sports have an impact on the environment (greenhouse gas emissions, production methods on ecosystems, etc.) and must reduce it. On the other hand, they suffer the consequences of climate change (heat waves, extreme meteorological phenomena, snow cover, etc.) and will have to adapt to it.

Outdoor sports shape our lifestyles, our social norms, our ideals of practice, and therefore our behaviors. Through the images they convey in the specialized press, advertising, social networks and sports events, outdoor sports can speed up or slow down the ecological transformation of our society.

As part of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, organized by CREPS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Vallon-Pont-d'Arc • Voiron • Lyon / European Center for Outdoor Sports with the support of the National Resource Center nature sports,  this national seminar will allow discussion on environmental education, the role of sports educators and the contribution of nature sports to the ecological transition of our society. Participants will benefit from feedback, expert perspectives, exchanges with people involved in the theme of ecological transition. During participatory workshops, they will also be able to contribute to the development of proposals that will be submitted to the institutions in order to feed the debates and fuel their work.

Open to everyone, this seminar will take place from May 12 to 13 at Creps de Vallon-Pont-d'Arc only in person. Given the limited number of places available, we will confirm your participation after registration closes.
